What a typical session looks like.

Every horse and rider is different, but here’s the flow you can expect:

  1. We start by talking. You’ll share what’s been going on, and I’ll ask questions to get a feel for your horse’s history and your goals.

  2. Observation. I’ll spend time watching your horse — how they move, how they respond, what their body language is saying.

  3. Hands-on or groundwork. Depending on what’s needed, I may guide you through gentle groundwork, touch, or simple exercises that help your horse settle and communicate.

  4. Reflection and plan. We’ll wrap up with takeaways and a few easy, realistic practices you can carry forward at home.

Sessions are calm, unhurried, and designed to leave both you and your horse feeling more connected and at ease.

I will always set aside two hours, and unless we have a lot of fear, stress, or aggression happening, we will keep at it until we make some progress!

Who needs an equine behavior consult?

Behavior consulting is for any horse-and-human partnership that feels stuck, stressed, or out of sync. Some of the things I help with include:

  • Spookiness and reactivity — learning how to read triggers and help your horse find calm in the moment.

  • Anxiety — building confidence and safety in herd-bound horses, weavers, cribbers, pacers, stall-walkers, kicking, biting, rearing - please keep in mind lifestyle changes will likely be suggested. We will work with you on this - don’t panic!

  • Resistance under saddle — understanding what your horse’s body or mind might be trying to say, instead of pushing through it.

  • Shut-down or “quiet” horses — recognizing when stillness is really stress, and finding ways to bring them back into honest connection.

  • Tension around handling or grooming — using touch and energy practices to create a sense of safety and ease.

  • Horses with big opinions — finding a middle ground that honors their personality while creating boundaries you both understand.

All horses must have a current veterinary clearance before beginning behavior work. Even with clearance, we may suggest further diagnostics if pain or medical concerns are suspected. We never diagnose — our role is to support behavior and connection, while your vet handles the medical side.

No matter the behavior, the process always begins the same way: slow down, listen, and respond with presence. From there, we create a plan that builds safety, trust, and lasting change without force.

If you have an aggressive horse, we will ask to work in protected contact until we make some progress. Over any fence, stall door, or round pen is fine! We prefer to dodge the kicks and nips, we hope you understand!

Our space is limited. Please send us an email by clicking below - and we’ll get you on the schedule!
