Understand the Horse Beneath the Behavior
Learn through classes, guides, and in-person support that help you connect the dots between your horse’s body, brain, nervous system, and behavior.
Think More Like a Horse
Horses don’t respond to us with a human brain, a human body, or a human idea of what should happen next.
They respond through instinct, learned experience, level of physical comfort, emotional state, nervous system capacity, environment, and relationship.
I want to help you understand those pieces, so you can read your horse with more clarity, use rewards with purpose, set boundaries with confidence, and make more thoughtful choices in training, care, and your relationship with your horse.
Every Resource Helps you Read the Horse in Front of You
Start anywhere! You do not need to follow Willow’s Way resources in perfect order.
The foundational classes introduce the core concepts you’ll see again and again: how the body influences behavior, how the nervous system shapes learning, how horses express tension, curiosity, fear, confidence, and connection, and how rewards and boundaries can work together.
Focus classes expand those ideas through specific topics like equine tension, emotional systems, regulation, posture, and movement.
Guides and ebooks bring the pieces together around real questions and challenges, giving you a deeper way to understand what your horse may be communicating and what kind of support they may need next.
The topic can change. The lens stays connected.
Foundational Classes
The core ideas you’ll come back to again and again
Foundational classes are short, focused lessons that help you understand the concepts running underneath everything at Willow’s Way.
You’ll learn why the body affects behavior, why regulation comes before learning, and why your horse’s responses are rarely about one isolated moment.
They’re easy to start with and even easier to revisit when a focus class, guide, or barn situation has you thinking, “Wait. I know this connects somehow.”
You’ll benefit from foundational classes if you want to:
build a clearer base of horse behavior knowledge
understand how the body and nervous system influence training
stop piecing together random advice that does not quite fit
have simple concepts you can return to again and again
begin seeing patterns instead of isolated “problems”
Start here if: You’re new to Willow’s Way, curious about the whole-horse approach, or want the basics without a huge time commitment or a second cup of coffee.
Focus Classes
A closer look at one important piece of the puzzle
Focus classes take one topic and give it more room to breathe.
These are for the subjects that deserve more than a quick tip.
Each focus class helps you explore one specific area of the horse’s body, brain, nervous system, or behavior with more depth, examples, and practical takeaways.
You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of what you’re seeing, why it may be happening, and how that information can shape your next choice.
You’ll benefit from focus classes if you want to:
understand one topic with more depth
connect behavior to the body, brain, and nervous system
make better sense of tension, emotional state, posture, movement, or learning
build your eye without committing to a long course
feel more confident interpreting what your horse is showing you
Start here if: A specific topic already has your attention and you want enough information to feel grounded, not overwhelmed.
Guides
Love a deep dive? These are for you.
Our guides are where we bring multiple pieces together around a specific topic, pattern, or challenge.
This is the place for nuance: the body, brain, environment, history, nervous system, behavior, management, and the very human moment of standing in the barn thinking, “Okay, but what do I do with all of this?”
These written resources are designed to be read, highlighted, revisited, and used as support while you make sense of the horse you’re working with.
They give you the deeper explanation, the examples, the visuals, and the practical tools that help the information stick.
You’ll benefit from guides if you want to:
understand a specific topic from more than one angle
go deeper than a class can comfortably go
have a written resource you can return to as your horse changes
connect science, behavior, body awareness, and practical support
feel less alone with complex topics like cribbing, tension, sensitivity, or regulation
Start here if: You love to read, want the deeper dive, or need something you can keep coming back to when your horse adds a new chapter to the plot.
In-Person/Virtual Support
When you want help applying it to your own horse
Sometimes you need more than a resource. You need another set of eyes on the whole picture.
In-person support is available for local clients (Syracuse and surrounding areas) when my schedule allows.
Virtual support is available for horse owners who want help understanding their horse’s behavior, body patterns, environment, training history, and nervous system needs from afar.
You’ll benefit from support if you want to:
talk through what is happening with your specific horse
understand patterns you may be too close to see clearly
get help choosing next steps that fit your horse, your setup, and your goals
look at behavior through the body, nervous system, environment, and relationship
feel less like you’re guessing your way through every decision
Start here if: You want individualized guidance, virtual support, or local in-person help when availability allows.
New Here? Start with the roots.
Foundational classes introduce the ideas that run underneath every Willow’s Way resource: body, brain, nervous system, behavior, and relationship.
They’re short, focused, and easy to revisit when you need to reconnect the dots.

I'm Chelsie Brooks, an equine behavior specialist and IAABC member with over 30 years of experience in the horse world. I'm professionally trained in equine massage - not because I set out to be a bodyworker, but because anatomy kept showing up in my behavior work. You can't fully understand why a horse resists, braces, or shuts down without understanding the body underneath. I needed hands-on experience to bring it all together!
At the core of everything I do is a belief that horses deserve a voice. Every behavior is a form of communication, and when we take the time to listen, we uncover what they truly need. My role is to help you understand those signals and guide both horse and rider toward trust, relaxation, and balance — creating space for horses to be heard and for real partnership to grow.
Nice to Meet You!
